About the Role
POSITION FUNCTION:
The position reports to the Quality Manager - US and is responsible for implementing and continuously improving Food Quality and Safety Programs and facilitating audits that support both customer requirements and facility certifications (for example organic, Kosher, Halal).
SCOPE:
The Quality Assurance Specialist is the SQF Practitioner for Caldic USA University Park location and supports our other North American facilities with the development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the facility’s Food Safety and Quality Programs. At the University Park location, the role is responsible for issuing and maintaining SOP’s, 3rd party audits related to facility certifications and internal and customer audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare for, schedule and facilitate customer and 3rd party audits as required for University Park, which include annual certification audits such as SQF, Organic, Kosher, Halal and unscheduled audits, such as, FDA, etc.; provide support for any 3rd party audits at other facilities, as required.
- Lead and manage the development, implementation, review, maintenance and continuous improvement of University Park’s SQF Food Safety System, HACCP and GMP program; provide leadership support for Food Quality and Safety Programs at other Caldic North American Locations.
- Conduct internal audits at other Caldic Facilities.
- Collaborate with Caldic North America training programs that ensure employee awareness of and compliance to Food Quality and Safety system requirements.
- Conduct monthly HACCP meetings for University Park; monitor corrective actions are completed in a timely manner. Lead and facilitate continuous improvement initiatives.
- Issue, control and maintain current University Park’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Quality Manual and Internal Audit Checklists, Master Indexes Collaborate with the investigation, corrective and preventive actions of customer complaints.
- Prepare Executive QA reports: Weekly Summary of key events, quality deviation occurrences and employee training, Monthly HACCP updates and Quality report, Quarterly Quality Management Review.
- Provides support/back-up for Quality Manager as HACCP Senior Team member for Food Safety / Quality responsibilities.
- Monitor effectiveness of allergen and sanitation control.
- Monitor effectiveness of 3rd party pest control and scale calibration.
- Keep current on Canadian and U.S. regulations pertaining to Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
- All other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements & Skills
- BSc degree, preferably in Food Science or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years QA work experience in a food manufacturing environment
- Strong working knowledge of GFSI and HACCP programs
- Fully trained and previous working experience in a facility certified to a GFSI food safety standard (BRC or SQF preferred)
- Working experience with regulatory and other certification bodies, for example CFIA, FDA, Organic, NHPD, Kosher
- Strong organizational, time management and problem solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills
- Can work effectively in a team environment with little direct supervision.
- Must be willing to work hands on with operation employees to ensure compliance and comprehension of food safety policies and programs
