Job Title: Legal & Compliance Counsel, North Asia

About the Role

We are seeking a highly qualified North Asia Legal & Compliance Counsel to manage legal and compliance matters, with a primary focus on China and regional support across North Asia (Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Japan and South Korea).

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including NDAs, distribution and agency agreements, procurement contracts and other commercial documentation, in line with internal templates and risk guidelines.
  • Provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice on contract interpretation, risk allocation and compliance with internal policies and approval processes.
  • Advise on corporate governance, anti-bribery/anti-corruption (ABAC), sanctions and export controls, data privacy, cybersecurity, trade compliance and other applicable regulations in the region.
  • Support the implementation of global and regional compliance programmes, including policies, training and compliance awareness initiatives.
  • Support corporate matters such as entity maintenance, governance and restructuring projects, in collaboration with APAC Paralegal or external counsel where required.
  • Manage disputes and litigation, coordinating with and supervising external counsel as required.
  • Provide legal and compliance support on regional projects and initiatives (e.g. integration projects, assets or legal entity structuring projects), as needed.
  • Contribute to legal operations and efficiency initiatives, including contract standardisation, digitisation (e.g. contract management systems), and process improvements.

Job Requirements

  • PRC practicing lawyer qualification preferred; candidates with substantial experience advising on PRC law in-house or in private practice will also be considered.
  • 6–8 years of relevant legal experience, ideally with a combination of private practice and in-house experience in a multinational environment (experience in manufacturing and/or distribution is a plus).
  • Prior experience in a reputable law firm would be a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise between multiple tasks and demands, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exercise sound judgment and appropriately escalate high-risk or complex matters to the APAC Legal & Compliance Director.
  • Native or business-level fluency in Mandarin and English is mandatory.
