External Communications Manager

About the Role

For the Corporate Communications team based in Rotterdam, we are seeking a seasoned and strategic External Communications Manager to lead a high-impact communications program that reinforces our reputation, positions our executives and market experts as industry leaders, and drive engagement with key stakeholders in a B2B distribution space focused on providing ingredients and specialty chemicals solutions for the life sciences and material sciences markets.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute external communications strategies aligned to business objectives and brand positioning.
  • Create compelling narratives that translate relevant industry topics into engaging, audience-appropriate messages.
  • Lead media relations, securing high-quality coverage across global and regional, industry-specific outlets.
  • Manage market experts and executive visibility and thought leadership programs, including speaking opportunities and bylined articles, and analyst engagement.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on communications and reputation management.
  • Develop content for press releases, website, social media channels, op-eds, and digital platforms.
  • Measure and report on the effectiveness of communications programs, making data-driven recommendations where possible.
  • Manage external agencies, budgets, and cross-functional communications initiatives.

  • Strategic thinker with proven business acumen, a commercial mindset, and a deep understanding of the B2B environment and appetite to dive into subject matter.
  • Pro-active, collaborative leader able to influence stakeholders at all levels to obtain buy-in and support for initiatives.
  • Adaptable, resilient, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Results-oriented with a demonstrable attitude to go for it and get it done
  • Culturally aware and sensitive, with experience working across multiple geographies and markets.

Job Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in external communications, PR, or corporate affairs, ideally in a B2B setting.
  • Resourceful with proven ability to create and manage new initiatives in a global, cross-functional organization.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, including digital format (e.g. video).
  • Creative in playing around, tweaking, and repurposing existing content and footage for extended reach and channel exposure.
  • Experience integrating earned, owned, and paid media strategies.
  • Skilled in executive and senior leadership profiling.
  • Preferably, strong media and analyst relations network in relevant industries (chemicals distribution, food & nutrition, pharma).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field; Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Native English or near-native English speaker
