About the Role
Position: The position reports to the Senior Quality Assurance Specialist and is responsible for managing new vendor/manufacture qualification, conducting supplier and material risk assessment, assisting with implementation and continuous improvement of Food Quality and Safety Programs and audits that support both customer requirements and facility certifications (for example SQF, organic, Kosher).
Scope: The Risk Assessment Specialist supports all North American facilities with the development, implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the facility’s Supplier and product risk assessment programs. This role manages the new supplier / manufacturer qualification process, new material risk assessment for all North American facilities. At the Mississauga location, the role is responsible for assisting with maintaining the quality systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage Caldic North America’s vendor and manufacturer approval process, maintain documentation to qualify and approve new vendors and manufacturers and keep current already approved vendors and manufacturers, working directly with vendors, assist with supplier audits.
- Manage Caldic North America’s product approval process, maintain documentation to qualify and approve new materials and blends and keep current already approved items, working directly with vendors and R&D & Production team.
- Assist in preparations for customer and 3rd party audits as required for Mississauga, which includes annual certification audits such as SQF, Organic, FAMI-QS, Kosher, Halal and unscheduled audits (CFIA, FDA), etc.; provide support for any 3rd party audits at other facilities, as required.
- Assist in the development, implementation, review, maintenance and continuous improvement of Mississauga’s SQF Food Safety System, HACCP and GMP program; provide support for Food Quality and Safety Programs at other Caldic North American Locations.
- Conduct monthly HACCP inspections for Mississauga;
- Issue, control, and maintain current Mississauga Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Forms.
- Prepare Executive QA reports and KPIs including: Weekly Summary of key events, quality deviation occurrences, Monthly HACCP updates and Quality report, Quarterly Quality Management Reports.
- Provide support/back-up for Quality Assurance Specialist for Food Safety / Quality responsibilities.
- Keep current on Canadian and U.S. regulations pertaining to Food Safety and Quality Assurance.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills and Experiences
- BSc degree, preferably in Food Science or a related discipline
- Minimum 3 years QA work experience in a food manufacturing environment
- Strong working knowledge of GFSI and HACCP programs
- Previous working experience in a facility certified to a GFSI food safety standard (SQF preferred)
- Working experience with regulatory and other certification bodies, for example CFIA, FDA, Organic, Strong organizational, time management and problem solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, good interpersonal skills
- Can work effectively in a team environment with little direct supervision.
- Must be willing to work hands on with operation employees to ensure compliance and comprehension of food safety policies and programs
