About the Role

Position function: Reporting to the Technical Lead - Bakery for Caldic Canada, Inc. the individual will be responsible for supporting the Product Management Team in building and growing the Trusol portfolio thru formulation and development of new products for Caldic customers as well internally-initiated projects/blends.

Scope: The position will be responsible for completing the R&D process of formulation and development of new products from the concept stage to prototype and full-scale production as well as ingredient matches, modifications, cost reduction and quality improvement for existing products for customers within the specific sector. This role will provide technology support to other areas of the Caldic business as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and completing R&D projects with a focus on Trusol as defined by the Product Manager-Bakery or Technical Lead as outlined thru the NPD process.
  • Responsible for supporting the successful commercialization of new products
  • Collaborate with the appropriate Business Team to outline new product development and improvement projects
  • Collaborate with Technical and Applications Team to develop, coordinate, prepare and present relevant concepts to customers featuring Caldic manufactured or distributed products
  • Participate in product improvement initiatives to improve the quality of existing products in response to customer feedback, to improve nutritional value, colour, flavour, texture and convenience, or to improve cost efficiencies in the plant.
  • Identify formula (or process) cost reduction opportunities with existing blends through cost-effective ingredient alternatives without compromising product quality/attributes.
  • Conduct appropriate testing and shelf life studies as required
  • Participate in marketing activities such as trade shows, focus groups, new idea generation, researching market trends as they pertain to strategic business plan and new products
  • Provide technical support and expertise in problem solving for issues relating to product quality
  • Work closely with production, marketing, QA/QC in monitoring the performance of new products during post-launch activities in the New Product Process; may include troubleshooting, ingredient recommendations and customer site visits
  • Provide preliminary product documentation including Specifications
  • Participate in joint calls and customer on-site trials as required
  • Complete all other duties as assigned by Product Manager
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, GMP’s and HACCP requirements

Skills

  • Must have strong oral/written communication and good interpersonal skills
  • Must have strong presentation skills
  • Must have strong computer knowledge and skills (MS Office)

Job Requirements

  • University. B.Sc. – Food Science or equivalent is a strong asset
  • Minimum 3-5 years of product development experience in the food industry specifically in bakery
