About the Role
Position function: Reporting to the Product Manager - Dadex for Caldic Canada Inc., the individual will be responsible for supporting the Product Management Team in building and growing the Dadex antioxidant solutions through formulation, optimization, and commercialization of antioxidant solutions, as well as analytical testing on various antioxidants, fats, oils, and finished human and pet food products.
Scope: The Lab Technologist will be responsible for conducting analytical testing and interpreting raw data to evaluate the shelf life of food and pet food products under both real-time and accelerated storage conditions. This role includes maintaining the functionality and cleanliness of the analytical laboratory, as well as managing inventory by replenishing necessary ingredients, chemicals, and supplies.
The position will also collaborate closely with the Quality Control (QC) team and other R&D staff on long-term initiatives, including product development, analytical method support, and shelf life validation. The Lab Technologist plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and consistency of technical data that informs product performance and innovation strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Organize and execute Caldic’s food testing program, with a strong focus on both routine and non-routine analytical testing, raw data interpretation, and clear communication of results.
- Carry out day to day activities of the analytical lab including but not limited to sample receipt and storage, sample preparation, verification, and analysis.
- Creation of COA’S and maintenance of relevant databases.
- Testing of newly developed and current antioxidant blends and food formulations.
- Shelf life evaluation (accelerated and real-time) of current products as well as validation of testing methods
- Analytical testing of ingredients and blends for validation
- Preparation of samples for internal and external meetings and customer testing
- Provide preliminary product documentation including Specifications
- Maintain lab and working areas clean, organized, stocked with supplies as required
- Responsible for following Food Safety and Quality requirements as per Prerequisite programs, HACCP plans, CCP monitoring and SQF code.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by Product Manager and R&D Specialist
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, GMP’s and HACCP requirements
Job Requirements & Skills
- Science Degree or Diploma in Chemistry or relevant field.
- 1-3 years of R&D experience in the food or relevant industry
- Experience in food preservation, with a focus on antioxidants and fats and oils is a strong asset.
- Working knowledge of HACCP, Food Safety and Food Plant GMP’s.
- Strong organization skills are a must
- Ability to work and thrive in a very fast paced and dynamic environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on oral and written, concise and accurate communication
- Attention to detail, critical thinking and ownership
- Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs.
- Strong computer skills including MS Office
- Enjoy working autonomously and collaboratively
Job Requirements
- 1+ year of experience or internship in a related field.
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required.
- Eagerness to grow and develop within the organization.
