About the Role
We are seeking a driven, proactive Portfolio Manager to join our team.
The Portfolio Manager drives Caldic’s strategy to improve its customer competitiveness and enhances Caldic's value to the supplier community. The Portfolio Manager will develop the optimum portfolio of innovative, high quality and essential products that meet customer requirements. The individual in this role will have a keen understanding of customer needs in the respective sector across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) and will work with Caldic's sales and technical teams (including Supply Chain) to develop products and services that will deepen relationships with Caldic’s suppliers and deliver growth through enhanced customer relationships both in ANZ and throughout Asia Pacific.
This position offers the right individual an exciting opportunity to be the senior account manager for developing Caldic's relationships with key supplier accounts.
Within the Material Science portfolio, the Portfolio Manager is responsible for a cluster of principals and suppliers which may include and span across (and not limited to) Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, Construction, Plastics, Rubber, Industrial and Institutional, and/or new industry segments such as Lubricants, Water Treatment and Agriculture.
Key Responsibilities
- Growth: Develop and implement plan for growth and development of supplier and product portfolio in Caldic’s target markets in Australia and New Zealand. This also includes defence and growth of existing principals and suppliers.
- Portfolio Management: focus exclusively on portfolio management, manage monthly reports, respond to enquiries, and track budgets. Conduct market mapping in collaboration with the team to identify new opportunities and market trends.
- Principal Management: manage relationships with all relevant, including key, principals. Ensure alignment with principal expectations and drive the success of their products in the market.
- Product Management: own product management and product training. Attend and organize product training sessions to stay updated on new products, technologies, and market trends. Share knowledge and provide training sessions (including supplier delivered training) with the broader sales and commercial team to enhance overall performance.
- Work collaboratively with ANZ country teams, APAC Portfolio Management team and marketing and technical teams to develop attractive product baskets to meet customer demand. Identify and source the current and future product gaps.
- Proactively share and provide the sales team with tools and product knowledge to support them to be laser focus to grow the business with a go-to-market toolkit.
- Undertake business development and customer/product segmentation.
- Identify and develop suppliers to meet market demand in target customer segments (which includes undertaking gap analysis), and in collaboration with the sales team.
- Develop supplier pipeline, develop strategy for bringing targeted suppliers into the portfolio.
- Articulate and promote Caldic supplier value proposition. Identify potential conflicts.
- As identified, create relationships with prospect suppliers and introduce them to Caldic.
- Negotiate supplier programs, budgets, pricing, and payment terms.
- Manage marketing activities and events with customers and suppliers.
- Provide leadership and direction to sales/commercial teams and motivate them to successfully execute strategy.
- Manage relationships with supplier senior executives and coordinating principal visits.
- Perform other activities as requested by line manager.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in science, chemistry, business, or related field, preferably coupled with an MBA.
- Relevant industry / segment experience, coupled with at least 3-5 years of relevant market experience. Familiarity with key principals in respective market is a plus.
- At least 5 years of professional general management experience in the industrial business-to-business market, preferably with solid experience working with distribution or in the wholesale distribution channel.
- A successful tenure in general and/or purchasing management with a large distributor or supplier, experience in program negotiation, and familiarity with chemical ingredients.
- Strong business developer with facility to understand large supplier organizations, build rapport and develop relationships at every level (internally and externally).
- A demonstrable and consistent record of achieving business goals.
- Cultural intelligence and experience working for a multinational company, understanding cultural dimensions relating to doing business, including cultural awareness and etiquette.
- Success in developing, implementing, managing, selling services, programs, and concepts.
- Proven experience in key account management in technical solution sales.
- Strong understanding of market mapping, budgeting, and report management.
- Strong ability to develop mid to long term plans with partners and able to implement.
- Ability to develop, coach and guide a team.
- Ability to understand and act on market and supplier intelligence.
- Solid financial acumen with strong analytical ability.
- Strong influencing skills.
- Strong command of the English language both in written and spoken English.
- Commercial know-how in pipeline development and pricing.
